The group exhibition “Ground Noise” brings together works by Caterina Gobbi, Vera Kox, Wang Lu, Flo Maak, and Asako Shiroki, who critically explore questions of grounding, connection to the earth, and alternative conceptions of the self and nature.
In response to the hubris of a worldview that places humans above other beings—based on upright posture and supposedly superior intellectual abilities—the artists employ subtle material aesthetics, explorations of the ground, sound experiments, and new formal approaches. Through these, they seek to imagine caring relationships both between humans and across species.
Working across a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, sound, and performance, Gobbi, Kox, Wang, Maak, and Shiroki engage with urgent ecological and sociopolitical questions of responsibility through abstract artistic practices. Processes of transformation and changes in materials, alongside poetic fields of association and scientific references, open up new in-between spaces for alternative ways of locating ourselves in the world.

Neukölln is a vibrant and prominent location for Berlin’s contemporary art scene. With a large number of studios, art and project spaces, the district has developed into an important center for artistic production. Since 2017, the Department of Culture, in cooperation with Kulturnetzwerk Neukölln e.V. and STADT UND LAND Wohnbauten-Gesellschaft mbH, has been recognizing and promoting outstanding art production in Neukölln by awarding the Neuköllner Kunstpreis.In 2025, the Neuköllner Kunstpreis, endowed with a total of 6,000 euros, will be awarded for the 9th time. From a large number of applications, a jury of five art professionals has nominated a total of eight artists who live or work in Neukölln. Galerie im Saalbau will be showing the works of the nominees in a group exhibition, giving visitors an authentic insight into the diverse art production of Neukölln artists.
